Sober 12 years since 9/7/1973, his wife of 38 years, Sally, is in Al-Anon. They have 4 children in their 30's and 40's.
Albert says, "I think I was addicted to approval long before I was addicted to alcohol....I think people talked to me about my attitude long before they talked to me about my drinking."
Raised in Iowa, he served in WWII. He missed embarkation by two days because of his drinking - but he could not see it at the time.
